Heritage Trimmings was founded in 1991 by Nick and Karen Tubbs, initially to reproduce the gold, silver and silk passementerie for the King’s Apartments at Hampton Court Palace. Traditional narrow fabric shuttle looms had been found over a number of years, all requiring extensive renovation, which was carried out by Nick with the help of Dennis Leaver a specialist shuttle and batten maker. The machinery was set up in a small industrial unit close to the city of Derby, and after 18 months of trading the decision was made to expand the production facility to include cord and tassel making, along with hand loom weaving of bullion fringes, and gimp braids.

Heritage or HT, as we have affectionately become known, was achieving a strong reputation for quality and service, and a year later more space was needed to house additional equipment, and the first members of staff joined the company.

Sustained steady growth meant that in 1998 saw the purchase of our own premises The Old Mess Room, which has historical interest to both Derby’s heritage and Karen’s family. The building is a former works canteen with a theatrical stage area, large auditorium/eating area, which has made a perfect factory with a pleasant working environment. The administration and design offices are converted from the old kitchens and sculleries.

Now trading for over 25 years, we have been involved in a selection of projects including Royal Palace’s, Places of Worship, Historic Houses, Vintage Car and Train Restoration. While the main stay of our business, is working alongside designers providing a quality bespoke trimmings service.

Keeping up with trends, we are constantly evolving our portfolio to include braids, bullion’s, cords, cut fringes, fan edges, tassel fringe and tie-backs, using all types of raw materials. Over the years we have built up a reputation for designing and colouring trimmings to the customers needs.

The building now looks and feels like it has always been a trimmings factory.
